Trevor Noah‘s final appearance on “The Daily Show” is imminent.

The comedian, who rose from relative obscurity to take over the program from Jon Stewart in 2015, plans to leave the flagship Comedy Central series after a seven-year run during which he adapted it for a new generation of viewers who are more comfortable with social media than with cable outlets and broadcast media.

In a video broadcast on the show’s Twitter on Thursday night, Noah expressed his gratitude to the audience and those who had worked on the show, stating that he was “full of gratitude for the experience.”

“I have enjoyed hosting this program. It was one of my major obstacles. It was one of my greatest pleasures “Noah stated. “We have both laughed and cried together. After seven years, however, I feel it’s… time.”

After spending two years in his flat during the pandemic, Noah claimed he found he missed traveling.

“When I returned to the wilderness, I realized there was another aspect of my life I wanted to continue investigating,” he stated in the film. “I miss studying foreign languages. I miss traveling abroad and putting on performances. I long to be everywhere and do everything.”

It was initially unclear when his actual departure would occur; in the video, Noah stated that they will “work out the timings and the whens.” In addition, it was unknown if the Paramount Global cable network had begun to seek a replacement.

“We appreciate Trevor’s incredible partnership throughout the past seven years. We are collaborating on the next steps in the absence of a timeline for his departure,” the network stated in a statement. “As we look to the future, we’re enthusiastic about the next chapter in ‘The Daily Show’s 25-plus-year existence as it continues to shape society through cutting and entertaining social commentary, thereby helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”

Jill Fritzo, a representative for Noah, was not immediately available for comment.
