Dawit Eklund is a music producer who focuses on Ethiopian music. Along with Sami Yenigun and Joyce Lim, he started the independent record label 1432 R in Washington, DC.

In an article about him, the Washington Post said, “Eklund has become one of Washington’s most exciting dance music producers. This isn’t because he mixes styles from all over the world, but because he spent a lot of his young life learning how to talk to different kinds of people.”

Dawit, who also goes by the name David, went to George Washington University and studied international development, with a focus on Africa.

Because his parents worked for the US government, he moved around a lot as a child. He lived in Bangladesh, Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan, among other places.

His mother is from Ethiopia, and she comes from a very successful business family. His sister Sara brought menstrual cups to Ethiopia, which was written about in a 2019 Vogue article.
