Who Are Madonna’s Children? Everything You Need To Know About Her 6 Children!

Madonna Louise Ciccone is an American singer, composer, and actor who was born on August 16, 1958. Madonna dubbed the “Queen of Pop,” is well known for her versatility in songwriting, music production, and visual presentation. She has pushed the boundaries of artistic expression in popular music while remaining completely in charge of her career. Her works, which combine social, political, sexual, and religious themes, have sparked controversy and received critical acclaim.

Madonna, a well-known cultural icon in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, remains one of the “well-documented figures of the modern age,” with a large body of academic analyses and literature works on her and an academic subdiscipline devoted to her called Madonna studies.

Who Are Madonna’s Children

Before having her first child, Lourdes, in 1996, she had twins Stella and Estere, as well as Rocco, David, Mercy, and Lourdes.

Madonna opened up about her adoption experience and life at home with her children on the cover of PEOPLE in 2017.

“Every now and then, I’d close my eyes and wonder, “Why isn’t my kitchen full of dancing kids?” “There are so many children who need homes,” she said. “What am I looking forward to?” I questioned myself. Just do it.”

Madonna spoke about how she instantly connected with her children. It’s enigmatic, she said. “It’s like asking, “Why do you fall in love with the people you do?” It only takes one look into someone’s eyes to sense and be touched by their soul.”

As a tribute to her six children, the “Like a Virgin” singer inked the initials of each of them on her wrist in December 2020. Madonna most recently traveled to Italy with her children to celebrate her 64th birthday in August 2022. “Tanti auguri (good birthday),” she captioned a photo of herself and her children posing during the festivities.

LOURDES, 25

Madonna welcomed Lourdes Leon into the world on October 14, 1996, in Los Angeles, with her then-husband, fitness instructor Carlos Leon. Madonna’s eldest child has always been her centre of gravity. Madonna wrote “Little Star,” a song from her Grammy-winning album Ray of Light, for her first child.

Lourdes has worked for Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Swarovski, Mugler, and Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty line, among others. She’s also appeared in Vogue and Vanity Fair. She’s now a well-known fashion model in her own right.

She admits that her famous mother was “a control freak” when she was a child, but she has since grown to respect how empowering to other women and forward-thinking she has always been.

“I didn’t fully understand that until I realized the importance of empowerment and what it means to be a woman,” she told Interview Magazine in 2021. She puts in as much effort as anyone I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, I did not inherit that. I didn’t understand her work ethic, but I did understand her control issues.

Lourdes will release her debut single, “Lock&Key,” in August 2022, following in her mother’s footsteps.

ROCCO, 22

Madonna began dating filmmaker Guy Ritchie in 1998, following her divorce from Carlos Leon in May 1997. After being born in Los Angeles on August 11, 2000, their son, Rocco Ritchie, was christened in Scotland at Dornoch Cathedral in December 2000. Madonna and Ritchie exchanged vows the next day at Skibo Castle; however, they divorced in 2008.

DAVID, 17

David Banda was born in Malawi on September 24, 2005.

Madonna visited Malawi on a humanitarian mission in October of the same year she founded Raising Malawi. While there, she and Ritchie decided to adopt 1-year-old David from the Home of Hope orphanage in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital.

The couple had to face legal consequences because adoption in Malawi is only permitted if the adoptive parents have lived in the country for at least 18 months. The adoption was formally granted on May 28, 2008.

MERCY, 16

Chifundo “Mercy” James was born on January 22, 2006 in Malawi. Madonna divorced Ritchie in 2008, and in May 2009, she applied to adopt Mercy as a single mother from an orphanage in Blantyre, Malawi. The High Court initially denied her application, but on June 12, 2009, she was granted permission to adopt Mercy.

The Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, Malawi’s first pediatric surgery and intensive care center, opened in July 2017.

ESTERE AND STELLA, 10

Stella and Estere were born on August 24, 2012, in Malawi. Madonna adopted her two youngest daughters in February 2017 when they were 5 years old. “It’s as if they’ve always been here,” the Swept Away star told PEOPLE. “It didn’t take long for them to adjust.”
“And they’ve realized over time that I’m their mother, and nothing will change that,” she added.

As the girls grew older, they discovered their interests and talents. Madonna has demonstrated Stella’s piano abilities; both girls, like their older brother, are talented dancers.
Madonna also threw an epic wig party for the girls to commemorate the occasion. The proud mother shared photos from the event on Instagram, including one of the twins wearing festive wigs and posing with their siblings Mercy and David.
