Katy Perry has been chastised for mentioning serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in her hit song ‘Dark Horse.’
The line from the 2013 song is, “She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer.”
The lyric, performed by featured artist Juicy J, has resurfaced nine years after its original release as a result of a new Netflix series depicting Dahmer’s crimes.
“It still upsets me when I hear the line in the song Dark Horse ‘She eats your heart out like Jeffrey Dahmer,’ and I always make my daughter turn the station,” one Twitter user said.
“It’s so disrespectful to the families of the victims.”
“Why isn’t anyone calling Katy Perry out for allowing such a vile & terrible lyric to be included in one of her hit songs?” another fan asked. Jeffrey was a well-known serial killer, and Katy CHOSE to romanticize his heinous and inhumane actions. I am actually sick to my stomach. She MUST apologize.”
Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer was one of America’s most infamous serial killers, murdering and dismembering at least 17 men.
His crimes included cannibalism and necrophilia as well.
The story of Jeffrey Dahmer is currently being told in a Netflix series starring Evan Peters as the serial killer.
“I’m not telling anyone what to watch, I know true crime media is huge rn, but if you’re actually curious about the victims, my family (the Isbell’s) are pissed about this show,” one relative of Dahmer’s victims said on social media. It’s retraumatizing all over again for what? “How many films/shows/documentaries do we require?”
Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story has received mixed reviews overall, with praise focusing primarily on Peters’ performance.
