Estelle Harris (April 22, 1928 – April 2, 2022) was an American actress who was well known for her loud, grating voice. She was most recognized for her role on Seinfeld as Estelle Costanza. Mrs. Potato Head in the Toy Story franchise, Muriel in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Mama Gunda in Tarzan II were among her other roles.

Estelle Harris has a net worth of $5 million as an actress, voice actor, and comedian in the United States. In April 1928, Estelle Harris was born in Manhattan, New York. She has over 100 acting credits under her belt, dating back to 1977. From 1992 until 1998, she was most recognized for her role as Estelle Costanza on the television show Seinfeld.

Early Life:

Harris was born Estelle Nussbaum in Manhattan in April 1928, the younger of two daughters of Polish Jewish immigrants Isaac (“Ira”) and Anna Nussbaum, who managed a candy store.

Her date of birth has been cited as April 4 or April 22 on several occasions.  When she was seven years old, she relocated to Tarentum, Pennsylvania, to be closer to her aunt and uncle, who had invited her father to work in their candy store. Tarentum High School was her alma mater.

Career:

Harris explored acting once her children had grown up and had early success in television advertisements, amassing 23 spots in a year at one time. In one of her most well-known advertisements, she was seen singing enthusiastically about Handi-Wrap II.

Harris made her long-form acting debut in 1977 with the film Looking Up, which follows three generations of a working-class Jewish family in New York City. She rose to prominence as Estelle Costanza on Seinfeld, where she had a supporting part. In the third-season Voyager episode “Sacred Ground,” which aired on October 20, 1996, she played the Old Woman, who was actually a manifestation of the Nechani Spirits. She had a minor role in Out to Sea as Bridget (1997).  Mrs. Potato Head’s voice was performed by her in Toy Story 2 (1999), and she would reprise the role for the rest of the franchise. She appeared in Tarzan II as Mama Gunda in 2005. Harris had a recurring role as Muriel on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. She made an appearance in Brad Paisley’s music video for the song “Online” in 2007. In Toy Story 3, Harris resumed her role as Mrs. Potato Head (2010). Bertha Kristal, the mother of CBGB founder Hilly Kristal, was played by her in CBGB (2013).

Death and Personal life

At a dance in 1952, Harris met Sy Harris, a window treatment salesman. They were married six months later. They had a daughter, Taryn, and two sons, Eric (born 1957) and Glen (born 1961). (born 1964). Eric works as a social worker, Glen is a music promoter who also serves as his mother’s unofficial manager, and Taryn is a retired Nassau County cop. Harris had three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Harris pursued acting jobs once her children entered school, initially in amateur performances, then in dinner theatre and commercials.

The couple’s car blew a tyre and flipped again on September 20, 2001, yet they escaped major injury.

On January 11, 2021, Sy passed away.

Harris died on April 2, 2022, at the age of 93, at her home in Palm Desert, California.
