Monday evening’s Met Gala was decided to attend by Elon Musk and his surprise date, his mother.
Mother, 74-year-old Maye Musk, wore a maroon velvet Dior gown with Chopard pearls. Son wore tails and a white tie.
His mother found it amusing that the Tesla CEO was mugged by paparazzi. She is no stranger to the camera: at age 69, she signed on to represent the cosmetics brand Cover Girl as part of her extensive modeling career.
Elon Musk’s 2018 Met Gala choice of clothing was more traditional than his 2017 style of dress. At this event, he wore a priestly robe and a white jacket emblazoned with the phrase “Novus ordo seclorum” (roughly “new world order”) At the event, he and the music producer Grimes — glass corset, Vantablack crown — made their first public appearance as a couple. They have two children together four years later, and their on-again, off-again relationship is reportedly in the off phase.
The Gala is a fundraiser for New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
