Michael William Krzyzewski is a collegiate basketball coach from the United States. Since 1980, he has been the head coach at Duke University, where he has guided the Blue Devils to five national championships, 12 Final Fours, 15 ACC tournament crowns, and 13 ACC regular-season titles. Only UCLA’s John Wooden has won more NCAA titles in men’s college basketball, with a total of 10. Krzyzewski is widely recognized as one of the all-time great college basketball coaches.
Krzyzewski has also coached the US national team, which he guided to three gold medals in the Olympics in 2008, 2012, and 2016. He was the head coach of the United States team that won gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Cups, as well as an assistant coach on the 1992 Olympic “Dream Team.”
From 1966 through 1969, Krzyzewski was a point guard for Army under coach Bob Knight. He was the head coach at his alma school from 1975 until 1980. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame twice: once in 2001 for his individual coaching career and again in 2010 as part of the “Dream Team” collective induction. In 2006, he was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame, and in 2009, he was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame (with the “Dream Team”).
Krzyzewski became the coach with the most victories in NCAA Division I men’s basketball history on November 15, 2011, when he guided Duke to a 74–69 victory over Michigan State at Madison Square Garden. Krzyzewski’s 903rd victory broke the previous record established by his former coach, Bob Knight. Krzyzewski became the first Division I men’s coach to achieve 1,000 victories on January 25, 2015, when Duke defeated St. John’s, 77–68, at Madison Square Garden.

Hubert Davis vs. Coach K: Who Will Win A Salary Battle?
[April 3, 2022, Updated] The Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Tar Heels have met 257 times, with UNC leading the all-time series 142-115. Until now, the two had never faced off in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils, who were consistently among the top teams in college basketball all season, advanced from the East region. The Tar Heels overcome a rocky start to the season and exploded to victory in the West area.
This sets the stage for a historic battle between the two teams to advance to the championship game. Mike Krzyzewski is in his 42nd and final season as Duke’s head coach. Coach K has won 101 NCAA Tournament games and is seeking his sixth national championship to cap an illustrious career. On the opposite side of the ball, first-year UNC coach Hubert Davis is coaching his alma mater and aims to add another championship to the school’s long and illustrious history.
The season series was split, with each side winning on the other’s home court. However, how do the coaches fare financially?
Let’s begin with Davis, as his deal was signed more recently. North Carolina signed Davis to a five-year, $10 million deal following the retirement of former UNC coach Roy Williams at the end of last season. The contract includes an expense allowance and remuneration from Tar Heel programme partners Nike and Learfield. Additionally, the arrangement includes annual bonuses of up to $1.1 million. Davis is eligible to receive additional money if the Tar Heels win the ACC regular season or conference tournament, qualify for the NCAA Tournament, and advance through each round of March Madness. Davis will also receive a bonus if his team earns national or ACC Coach of the Year honours and will receive an annual bonus if his team’s academic progress rate exceeds 975.
Davis’ beginning pay this season is $1.8 million, ranking him 61st among coaches whose wages are publicly disclosed. With bonuses included, he’ll likely end the year with earnings of closer to $2.5 million.
Coach K, on the other hand, has been earning significantly more than that for almost a decade. Throughout the most of the 2010s, he earned in excess of $9 million every year. His base compensation is $7,048,206, but with bonuses, his annual salary may reach $9.7 million – nearly four times what Davis will earn.
Coach K has also declined multiple NBA team offers throughout the years. His annual compensation would have been roughly the same or slightly less, albeit he would not have achieved the same level of success as he has at Duke. Coach K’s Duke teams have won approximately 79 percent of the games in which they have coached.
We’ll see how the teams perform on the court, but Coach K comfortably wins the salary battle. Davis, of course, is only getting started. If he continues to put together seasons like this one, he will quickly catch up to Coach K.

When was Coach K’s final game?

Jon will take over as head coach starting in the 2022-2023 season. According to Duke’s blog, he is also “one of the most regarded assistant coaches in collegiate basketball.”
