Saturday, April 20 the St. Louis Blues (45-28-9, 3rd in Central) defeated the Winnipeg Jets (47-30, 2nd in Central) in a six-game series. The Blues advanced to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to face the Dallas Stars (43-32-7, 4th in Central).
In the first game of the series, the Blues dominated the Jets 2-1. In the third period, Blues #7 David Perrron scored a goal with assistance from #55 Colton Parayko and #70 Oskar Sundqvist. Blues #7 Pat Maroon and #27 Alex Pietrangelo assisted #21 Tyler Bozak to score another goal for the team after Perron’s goal.
In the second game, the score was 4-3 in favor of the Blues. Sundqvist scored two goals within the first two periods. Blues #18 Robert Thomas and #27 Alex Pietrangelo helped Maroon score his goal in the second period. #90 Ryan O’Reilly scored the last goal for the Blues in the third period with 17 minutes left in the period.
The series was Blues (2-0). The Jets made a comeback with a win in the third game 6-3. Perron scored in the first period. Blues #91 Vladimir Tarasenko scored in the third with help from #29 Vince Dunn. #20 Alexander Steen scored the third goal for the Blues in the third period.
The Jets (2-2) tied the series in the fourth game with another win 2-1. It was a very intense game, but Tarasenko was able to score a goal in the third period with assistance from Pietrangelo and O’Reilly.
The Blues conquered the Jets in the fifth game 3-2. In the third period, the Blues were on fire with three goals. O’Reilly, #10 Brayden Scheen, and #17 Jaden Schwartz lead the blues to another victory.
The Blues persistence and hard work led the team to their final win to close the six-game series and advance on to the second round. In each period, Schwartz was able to score one goal with the help of his teammates in the rink.
The Blues faced the Stars Thursday, April 25, at 8:30 p.m. at the Enterprise Center with the Blues defeating the Stars 2-3.
