Alice in Wonderland

The anticipation for Tim Burton’s 3D “Alice in Wonderland” could not have been higher. A better match in artistic sensibilities than between director Tim Burton and Lewis Carroll’s classics “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” would be hard to imagine, as the material seemed custom-made for the director.

‘Last Station’ has history, farce, drama, and Tolstoy

At the beginning of the 20th century, Leo Tolstoy was one of the most famous authors in the world. It was a time when movie cameras were a novelty and capturing footage of famous people, like the aging author of “War and Peace,” was new enough that celebrities had not yet learned to shy away, a time when World War I and the Russian revolution are both on the horizon.

‘Valentine’s Day’ is over-rated

Take the theme of love, spice it up with Valentine’s Day specifics, and add in 20 or so big-name actors and you get the movie “Valentine’s Day,” which premiered in theaters on Friday, February 12.

The Wolfman

Actor Benicio Del Toro is a big fan of the classic horror movie “The Wolfman,” starring Lon Chaney Jr., so much so that he produced and stars in this lavish re-make. But despite its spare-no-expense budget, the new “The Wolfman” lacks the heart, and therefore the impact, of the original.
