Kat Riddler, Managing Editor

Celeste Marx retired last October from her position as the director of alumni engagement at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. On March 22, an email was dispersed announcing that Phil Donato accepted the position.

Donato has spent the last 14 years at KWMU/St. Louis Public Radio where he was the director of marketing, events & community outreach. Before that, he was the executive director of the Illinois Health & Sports Foundation for eight years, and the development director at Boys Hope/Girls Hope of St. Louis for four years.

Jennifer Jezek-Taussig, associate vice chancellor for alumni engagement, stated in an email, “Phil’s experience in event planning and management, program development, marketing and communications, and fundraising/revenue enhancement will help us take alumni engagement at UMSL to the next level.”

Donato will spend half of his time as the executive director of the UMSL Alumni Association, which includes the governing board, its committees and alumni affinity organizations. The other half of the position will have Donato working within the Office of Alumni Engagement to partner with various units on campus to develop and support meaningful alumni programs.
