Over the course of a week, there were a number of multi car crashes near the highway construction zone on I-55 in the Metro East, near Hamel, Illinois.

Construction to replace the deck work on the highway bridge cost almost $4 million. Construction is also behind on the progress that was supposed to be made at this point.

Over the course of a year since construction began, there have been over 50 crashes in the area. Six people have been killed and 35 have been injured in these accidents. Drivers have also complained about the traffic it causes.

National

Federal authorities have apprehended who they believe to be the man behind the 13 mail bombs that were sent to high-profile Democrats. The Justice Department announced that there are five federal charges against Florida resident Cesar Sayoc and also stated his DNA and fingerprints left on the packages led to his capture.

Sayoc is an avid President Donald Trump supporter, with Trump and Republican stickers covering his white van. While the FBI did not state his motive, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said that politics may have played a role.

On Friday, a woman in China used a knife to attack a group of 14 schoolchildren, who were immediately sent to the hospital.

According to The Associated Press, the 39-year old woman who is only being identified by her surname Liu attacked the children Friday morning, slashing over a dozen students in the face.

The incident took place in Chongqing, China at Xinshiji Kindergarten. Authorities would not disclose what her motivations were or if the attacker was an employee at the school.
