New details regarding the shooting of St. Louis Officer Katlyn Alix by fellow officer Nathaniel Hendren have emerged, courtesy of KSDK.

Hendren shot and killed Alix during a supposed accident involving a game of Russian Roulette at Hendren’s apartment Jan. 24.

According to KSDK, Officers Hendren and Patrick Riordan did not respond to one of the calls they received during their shift Jan. 23.

Police logs showed that their shift began at around 10:50 p.m. in the 2nd District, the location of their overnight shift. At around 11 p.m., the officers responded to a call reporting an assault from an assisted living facility on Jamieson Avenue They concluded the call at around 11:30 p.m. and did not write a report.

According to the officers’ calls for service logs, the officers then received a call reporting a burglary alarm at a dialysis center on Manchester Avenue KSDK’s sources told KSDK that this burglary call was the one the officer’s reported to. Instead, sources claim that they used a cellphone to contact another police unit to cover the call while Hendren and Riordan were at Hendren’s apartment with Alix.

The unnamed officers who responded to the burglary call did not list the call in their service logs. KSDK’s sources also claim it is unknown if a reason was given for being requested to respond to the call.

Homicide and shooting rates in Chicago have seen massive declines in the first two months of 2019 as compared to 2018.

According to CNN, Chicago police have reported there have been 44 homicides so far this year, a 44 percent decrease compared to last year’s homicide rate which was at 80 homicides by this time of the year.

Additionally, 214 shootings have occurred in Chicago so far this year with 253 shooting victims being reported. Last year’s shootings by this time of the year were reported at 282 with shooting victim numbers at 345.

Chicago is often referred to as one of the more violent cities in the U.S., so reports of declining crimes is certainly good news for the city.

“Crime data for February provides strong evidence that the Chicago Police Department is on the right path toward improving public safety,” police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told CNN. Johnson claims this success could be the result of recent initiatives such as creating partnerships in Chicago neighborhoods, upgrading technology and using more manpower.

On Feb. 27, an Indian pilot’s jet was shot down over Kashmir, an area controlled in part by both Pakistan and India, during a dogfight between Indian and Pakistani warplane pilots.

The prime minister of Pakistani, Imran Khan, announced Feb. 28 that the pilot will be released back to India as a gesture of peace toward India.

Tensions between the two nations is currently continuing though as Surinder Bahal, an Indian army major general, stated that India’s Army is still on “high alert” during a joint news conference Feb. 28.

Before Khan’s announcement, military exchanges had been occurring between India and Pakistan over the dispute.

Pakistan has reported four civilians have been killed by Indian forces on the border line in Kashmir since the incident. However, India has since accused Pakistan of initiating the firefight.
